About me

Written by

diane wilkieIn order to understand how Tranquility came into being I firstly need to tell you a bit about myself.

In 1998 I became quite unwell and after numerous visits to doctor’s surgeries and hospitals over a period of 18 months, I was finally diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (M.E). Over this 18-month period I went from working full-time to part time and ultimately having to give up work completely. I lost all confidence in myself over this period to the extent that I developed a sense of worthlessness and wanted to hide away from the rest of the world.

Over the next few years I was given various conventional treatments from the doctor with varying degrees of limited success, however none of these treatments were totally effective. Through a degree of frustration and a desire to improve my health I began to explore and research a number of alternative health treatments. I was immediately drawn towards Reiki, I don’t know why, but I was just drawn towards it; almost an inner sense telling me that this was for me. Over the next few years as I learned more I became more and more convinced that I had made the right decision in using Reiki to heal both my body and mind. I took my Reiki 1 degree and quickly following that Reiki 2. I then went on to complete my masters and teaching degrees.

Over this period of time I realised that I was self-healing and learning how the balance between body and mind is so vital in personal well-being. The link between mind and body balance cannot be over emphasised. Even today I still have to remind myself this on a daily basis to stop me from slipping backwards. I gradually was feeling better and regaining a degree of self confidence and decided to go back to work part time. Whilst I enjoyed the fact that I was well enough to return to work I realised that it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. My period of ill health had given me the opportunity to explore alternative therapies, particularly Reiki, and I realised that this was the path that I wished to follow. It helped me, and I thought that it would be great if I could use my experience, along with the skills that I have learned, to help others.

The “Birth” of Tranquility

I decided that my future lay in delivering holistic therapies and over the previous years had built up a portfolio in various treatments that I would be able to provide. I looked at various options of how to do this and eventually decided that I would try to deliver these services from home. A customised log cabin was built in the back garden of my home and I began Tranquility from there. Over the years my client list has grown as has the portfolio of treatments I am able to provide.

I have continually sought to improve both myself and the business and came to the realisation last year that if I wished to continue to improve and grow that Tranquility had outgrown the log cabin. I spent a bit of time trying to secure larger premises eventually being successful in April 2018. So, moving to East Clyde Street is both an exciting new chapter for Tranquility as well as being slightly sad at leaving the log cabin behind. However, my teenage son has his eye on the log cabin as a “lads cave” so it won’t go to waste. The Tranquility Holistic Centre in Helensburgh, will have 3 separate treatment rooms as well as a larger room which can be utilised for group training sessions and workshops.

There will be a dedicated receptionist who will also run the retail facility selling products associated with holistic therapies and general wellbeing. The range of holistic/alternative treatments available will also be expanded as the therapists who will work there have their own specialities and are therefore able to offer a larger choice of treatments. I continue to strive to deliver a first-class service for my customers and am sure that the Tranquility Holistic Centre in Helensburgh will be able to give more people a positive experience in holistic/alternative treatments and add to their general health and wellbeing.
